Good morning,ComeOverG wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2017 7:20 am Good morning,
First of all, I want thanks to Matlo his development and dedication but also for the support he is offering trough E - Mail. I guess that the creation if this thread will help to another users in my same situation in the future.
Yesterday, I received my GIMX adapter. I update the firmware to PS4G29 (Atmega32u4.hex) and I've started the configuration process. During this process, Im having so much flying questions at my head and right now, Im having more problems than sucess which I will try to explain you all during the next lines. The adapter its connected with the red LED flashing side into the PC and the other USB cable going to the back USB port of my PlayStation 4 Pro.
For example, once Ive setup direct drive steering wheel and pedals on axis tab, I want setup the shift up / down and handbrake (Analog) actions but I was unable to find those names into the config tab. I need setup those to the DS4 gamepad circle, L1 and L2 buttons respectivelly?
In another hand, when I try to launch GIMX Launcher and the CMD window opens, I try to press the DS4 gamepad PS button without success (The gamepad its connected to PC through USB). I also see that the PC remain like freezed (No mouse cursor visible) until I end the process of GIMX Launcher with left shift + escape. It's that normal?
Thank you again.
Best regards.
Your setup appears correct with the adapter connected properly - red LED side to PC and other end to PS4 Pro's back USB port. Let me address your specific issues:
Regarding button mapping for shift up/down and handbrake:
You're correct in your approach. In GIMX configuration, you need to map your wheel's physical buttons to the corresponding DS4 buttons. For racing games, the typical mapping would be:
Shift up → DS4 Circle button
Shift down → DS4 L1 button
Handbrake (analog) → DS4 L2 button (analog trigger)
In the configuration tab, look for the "Buttons" section where you can assign your wheel's physical shift paddles and handbrake lever to these DS4 equivalents. The names might not be exactly "shift up/down" - they'll appear as the actual button numbers or names detected from your direct drive wheel.
Regarding the PS button press and system freezing:
The freezing issue you're experiencing is not normal and indicates a configuration or driver problem. Several things to check:
First, ensure you have the correct UsbDk driver installed. Many users resolve similar issues by uninstalling UsbDk completely, restarting the computer, then reinstalling it from the GIMX installation directory (usually C:\Program Files\GIMX\tools\usbdk$$. Restart again after reinstallation.
Second, verify your configuration file is properly loaded and contains button/axis mappings. An empty configuration will cause GIMX to not respond to inputs. If you're using a G29 configuration for your direct drive wheel, make sure it's the correct one or create a custom configuration using gimx-config.
Third, check your cable connections. A damaged USB cable between the adapter and PC can cause communication issues. Try a different USB cable if available.
Troubleshooting the PS button issue:
When GIMX launcher shows "Press the PS button to activate the controller," you should press the PS button on your wheel (not the DS4 gamepad). The DS4 should be connected to your PC but powered off initially. The PS button mapping should be configured in your wheel configuration file.
If the system freezes, this suggests a driver conflict or hardware communication issue. The fact that you need to use Shift+Escape to exit indicates GIMX is not properly communicating with the adapter or PS4.
Try these steps in order:
- Reinstall UsbDk driver as mentioned above
- Verify your configuration file has proper button mappings including the PS button
- Test with a different USB cable for the adapter
- Ensure the DS4 is properly detected by Windows when connected
The configuration process can be complex initially, but once properly set up, GIMX should work smoothly without system freezing.
