connection failed: Host is down

Hello all, I just downloaded GIMX on both Ubuntu and raspberry pi 3b, but on both when I attempt to start playing the info box states:

A device name is empty. Multiple mice and keyboards are not managed.
Warning: can't open macro directory /home/ubuntu//.gimx//macros/
connecting with hci0 = <dongle/pi bdaddr> to <PS3 bdaddr> psm 0x0011
connection failed; Host is down
can't connect to psm 0x0011
0 149302208.531014
Exiting
hci_disconnect : Input/output error

I suspect the critical error is: Warning: can't open macro directory /home/ubuntu//.gimx//macros/
This might have to do with root privileges, but I have no idea how to give GIMX those privileges.

Are privileges my problem? If so, how do I fix them? If not, why can't I connect?

PLS help I can't play any games because I have no controllers

How did you get the PS3 address?
It can only be discovered with a genuine sixaxis controller.
