Logitech G27 seen as DS4

I made a DIY adapter recently for a friend and it seems that when he starts gimx it all runs fine, but when he runs Project Cars it shows as a controller and not as a G29. He has the config set to LogitechG27_G29.xml he's running windows 64 bit and got 64 bit gimx, we've tried both 5.8 and 6.1 but still the PS4/game thinks the wheel is a controller. Any ideas as to what could be going wrong?
