Can't turn left more than 90 deg, right is fine, weird!

Playing FH4 and FM7, rotation is set to 900 and I can indeed turn fully right, but as soon as I turn more than 90 deg left (same point the animation stops) weird things happen
In FH4 the in game wheel jumps to straight and I lose control. I also hear a gear grind noise which can indicate it's trying to switch to keyboard or something. When I turn back less than 90, control comes back to the wheel.
In FM7 the in game wheel stays at full left animation and I can turn the car more and more beyond 90, but every time I hit the 90 mark to the left (both turning and releasing the wheel) it makes the gear grind noise, again indicative of it swapping control scheme.
Using official bought GIMX and latest GIMX software. Wheel is a Simucube 1 device.
Any ideas please?
