Windows 8 Issues

Post by Duetschbag »

Should GIMX be able to run on Windows 8? I haven't had much compatibility issues with other software when testing but I'm not sure whats happening here.

I just formatted my PC and cannot get GIMX to work properly. I'm wondering if it is because it doesn't work with Windows 8 or if something is wrong with my GIMX install?

- Launching gimx-launcher or gimx-fpsconfig causes the previously launched program to crash, then it re-opens
- Clicking start in gimx-launcher usually crashes, but when it does open it doesn't capture my key commands
- Launching GIMX in terminal mode gives me the following output

option -c with value 'PS4_Destiny.xml'
option -p with value 'COM3'
status flag is set
subpos flag is set
force_update flag is set
Detected USB adapter: DS4
using default refresh period: 10.00ms
Unable to init SDL: CoCreateInstance() DirectX error -2147221164
GE_initialize failed

Any suggestions, or if GIMX isn't officially supported on Windows 8, has anyone found a workaround for this?

Do you use a 32bit or a 64bit Windows version?

64bit Pro. (Previously using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.)

I guess I didn't realize there was a 32 and 64 bit version of GIMX.

I installed using i386.exe. Should I have used x86_64.exe?

I just retried both gimx3.3-i386.exe and gimx-3.3-x86_64.exe to see if there was any difference, but the same issue occurs.

I should also note that I tried a few different combinations to with running as administrator and compatibility mode but those actually seemed to make it worse.

Try download directx and see if that helps. There is a directx error on what you have shared.

DirectX is downloaded and installed as part of Windows Update, but I did verify with Dxdiag. It shows Dx11 is installed.

Today while running (the only change made was installing with gimx-3.3-x86_64.exe) I receive the following output:

option -c with value 'PS4_Destiny.xml'
option -p with value 'COM3'
status flag is set
subpos flag is set
force_update flag is set
Detected USB adapter: DS4
using default refresh period: 10.00ms
A device name is empty. Multiple mice and keyboards are not managed.
Warning: can't open macro directory C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming//gimx//macros/

I went to "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming" and see two folders. gimx and gimx-launcher. Because this references the gimx folder, I took a look inside and there is no macros folder. The only folder I see is config.

I uninstalled, removed both folders from the roaming directory, re-installed, but still see the same error message and no macros directory was created.

The "missing macro folder" message is just a warning, not an error.

I tested under windows 8 and I had no issue at all. Are you running windows 8 or 8.1?

I'm using 8.1.

New update on this. I downloaded GIMX 3.4 and it sort of works. Whether I launch launcher, config or fpsconfig each program will crash and relaunch itself. Once it relaunches, it works just fine. It's very strange, but it's at least usable.

Something else I noticed with, is that in gimx-config 3.4 i386, there is no option for adding a touchpad button like you could in 3.3. I'm guessing this was a mistake?
