A few questions please

Hello gentlemen nice to meet you. Just registered here and have a few questions:

1)So just to clarify, if I am not mistaken this program allows you to use *ANY* Windows DirectInput controller device on your PS3 or Xbox 360?

2)If yes to #1, does it mean I can use my own PC FFB steering wheel, pedals and stick shifter on my PS3?

Let me paint you an example:

Let's say I have 3 separate USB driving game controllers for Windows. None of them were made to work with consoles, only PC. A Leo Bodnar SimSteering force feedback wheel:

CST simulation pedals:

Thrustmaster TH8RS H-pattern stick shifter:

As you can see, these are all heavy duty sim racing equipment, and do not work on PS3 or Xbox. I want to combine all three of these devices, and use them on my PS3 to play racing games. I want to be able to map the analog steering input signal from the Leo Bodnar SimSteering FFB wheel to either a Logitech G27 or left sixaxis analog thumbstick, and map the CST pedals to the right thumbstick. Can this be done with the GIMX software?

3)I noticed in the description, it says that GIMX emulates a sixaxis controller. But what about a Logitech G25 or G27 FFB steering wheel? Can I use the gimx software to emulate the G27 wheel, using devices from my PC such as the wheel, shifter and pedals, so that my PS3 combines and sees them as ONE Logitech G27 FFB wheel? That would be extremely cool!

Please let me know. I don't have a PS3 anymore(yellow light of death) but I would buy another one in a HEARTBEAT if I can accomplish the above scenario.

Hi,

1) Any standard HID controller should work.

2) GIMX can do that, but there is no FF support yet.

3) No. I could add this functionality, but I need to have a G25/G27 for this.

Hello Matlo. I really appreciate your response. When I kept coming back and refreshing the page and saw the topic had no replies, I was starting to worry you were on vacation or something :D

Anyway thank you very much for the detailed answers. Your answers are very encouraging. Right now I am saving up to buy the Leo Bodnar SimSteering FFB wheel that you see above. It is very expensive but a such a heavy duty and killer beast of a wheel. I am also saving up for another PS3, and will also be saving up for the Logitech FFB wheel.

What I would like to do one of these days Matlo, is once I get all of these components together, I will be sending you the Logitech FFB wheel so you can reverse engineer it and get it fully working with proper force feedback, pedal support, shifter, etc. It will be either the Driving Force FX wheel or the G27, or both. The reason for the DriveFX wheel is because that is the only model that works properly with Ridge Racer 7. It supports full ffb and everything. As a huge Ridge Racer fan, I have always wanted to play that game with a high quality FFB wheel, but the G27 simply doesn't function properly with it, only the Drive FX.

Anyway, allow me time to save funds and gather all my components. Then I will be most definitely be keeping in touch with you over the coming months my friend. You are the only one I know that has come up with this unique method of interfacing any PC hardware device with consoles in this fashion. That is just genius!

It's my dream to be able to play Ridge Racer 7, OutRun 2SP, WipeOut, Gran Turismo and all the other PS3 exclusive racing games, using high end PC sim racing hardware. I'll be in touch :)

Hi,

Do you own a G25/G27?

I can try to make a firmware without owning the hardware, but I'll need the full USB descriptors for this.
This can easily be done in Linux: http://www.slashdev.ca/2010/05/08/get-u ... ith-linux/

I'm not sure I'll have enough time to add FFB support. It seems feasible at least in Linux.

Don't worry about anything right now. There's no rush. I don't own the G25/G27 or the Driving Force EX....yet. But don't worry I will be buying them once I have enough money over the next few months. Then I'll just send them to you. I don't have Linux, and the Leo SimSteering wheel only works in Windows, which is the only OS I'm willing to use. Force feedback is a must, otherwise there's no point in doing this. Don't worry though, once we get started and I'm in a better financial position, I'll make it worth your while. Stay tuned and enjoy your holiday in the meantime. 8-) :ugeek:

Happy new year everyone!

Hard to believe this was posted THREE years ago! Getting *REAL* and *TRUE* force feedback support for home consoles, not to mention for Non-Logitech FFB wheels, was a mere pipedream. Flashforward three years later and here I am, playing on Ridge Racer on my PS3, with a wheel that isn't even supposed to work on any console, with *true* force feedback! Matlo is nothing short of a genius. I'm looking forward to future versions of GIMX. This is truly a special program than more and more people will no doubt discover as time goes on.

Anyway just wanted to bump this and reminisce on the days when getting this working was simply a theory. Glad this isn't one of the threads that got nuked in the site maintenance

Hi

Would you mind explaining which GIMX firmware is required to get FFB working in Ridge Racer 7, plus any tips on the configuration?

Hi LemmingDev. I haven't updated my firmware in ages nor have I played my PS3 in forever(that will change soon), but right now I'm on version 8.0. This should work no problem with PS3 Ridge Racer 7. *MAKE SURE* you download the correct firmware! The only one that will work correctly with RR7 is "Driving Force PS2". Apply that one and it should work no problems.

As far as configuration tips, that highly depends on each individual's hardware and equipment. My particular case is quite unique because I'm using several highly industrial pieces if sim equipment(Bodnar wheel, Heusinkveld Ultimate Pedals, Quaife shifter, etc) to play the game. Your setup will be different from mine so you need to figure out what works best for you.

The configuration features within the GIMX options menu are very tweakable but fairly straight forward and self explanatory. Just play around with what you want your buttons pedals to do until you find something that works best for you.

Keep in mind RR7 only supports sequential gear shifting so if you have an H-pattern shifter it won't do you any good.

Matlo I hope you're doing well brother :)

Thanks for the reply

I will try it in a few minutes

If it is working, is there some indication in-game, like a steering controller menu or something?
