Battlefield 3, Keyboard + Mouse

Post by McKack »

Battlefield 3 Keyboard + Mouse (Windows, USB, pre-build of v0.24 if that's the right term)

Now I don't know how much of what's going to be in v0.24 was in the version of GIMX that I compiled but I did not hate using it, especially some of the new features in the configurator. Here's 2 hours and 30 minutes from my stream on Twitch.tv of me playing multiplayer (feel free to follow, I'll stream as often as I can when using GIMX):

Part 1

Part 2

I also streamed the final part of the campaign, using GIMX of course :)

(They still haven't patched the input lag so you'll see a lot of screen tearing because the game is running without vsync in 576p)

P.S.
I took the liberty of adding a twitchtv/justintv tag in case anyone does videos there and would like to share on the forum. Hope that's OK, Matlo :)

Nice videos, thanks :)

Would you say concerning the controls (acceleration, dead zone...) that the BF3 release @ 576p is the same as the BF3 demo @720p?

It's feels pretty much the same, yes, so I don't think they changed a lot under the hood regarding the aim. I'm currently at a deadzone of 38 and exponent of 0.39 to make it playable.

By the way, the force events, buffer and filtering doesn't do anything just yet I presume when doing a build of the current source? (I'm guessing a new accompanying firmware is needed as well) Just establishing if any difference I might feel in the game is placebo or not :)

The 'force events' and mouse smoothing should work. You should clearly see the smoothing in action if you set buffer size = 30 and filter = 1.00 for both x and y axes (it doesn't make any sense to use these extreme values for a fps as it introduces some latency).

No new firmware needed.

OK, I'll do a clean install of the current build in it's own folder (I dropped all the compiled release files in the Sixemu folder which may not have been a good idea to begin with) and do some more controlled tests with the filtering. Force events didn't work for me in Killzone 3 unfortunately, so I'm just gonna make sure I do everything right on my end.

Matlo/McKack, what are the most noticeable improvements over .23?

It did feel slightly tighter but I'm going to do a fresh build and put it in its own folder without any old Sixemu files in the mix and do some more thorough comparison testing. I've only been using it in the heat of battle in Battlefield 3 so far.
One major thing is the force events of course that'll make a BIG difference in Killzone 3 for example, and brings compatibility with games like Duke Nukem Forever that requires constant feedback from a controller.
Other than that, there's improvements to the config customizer that is very helpful when working with multiple configurations (will be known as multiple profiles post-0.24)
DPI used when configuring is stored so you don't have to worry about figuring that out when doing a conversion to your own mouse.
And lots more...

Here's a filtered list of fixes/enhancements since the last build
